And So It Begins
In case you missed my big announcement last week, I wanted to let you all know that I made the decision to upload a video every other day in February and you should tune in NOW! Why? Because I'm crazy and hate to sleep or have free time (kidding.) Because the number one request I received from you all in 2014 was MORE CONTENT! So I'm upping the ante and seeing how this series unfolds. Please watch, comment, and of course, subscribe. It means the world to me to see your comments on my videos and I always try to support people back, in whatever way I can.
Which brings me to my next point, which is something of a rant (feel free to click out.)
I've been on YouTube for two years now, and in that time, I've kept mainly to myself. I have friends, of course, but I've never asked for anything. Not a shoutout, not a sponsorship, not a collaboration. I'm a believer in being humble, working hard, and paying it forward.
I guess this past year a few things have really started to rub me the wrong way. If you haven't noticed, I've discontinued my featured bloggers series because I felt like *some* people were in it for the wrong reasons. Of course, anyone still up on my website is not included in this *some*, but unfortunately the bad people really started to kill my vibe. Hounding me for recognition, unsubscribing when I don't feature them, neglecting to even send a courtesy "thank you" email/tweet/etc. when I do? I mean, come on.
I've also joined some Facebook groups this year that are focused on YouTube channels and their development. I thought they would be a great way to network and find new channels, but turns out they are just shameless self-promotion hubs of mainly adolescent girls.
*Some* not all. Moral of this post.
And I just started to read through these groups and count the number of times I read "I" or "me" or "my". And I realized nothing about these groups is about... you know, the group. I don't know. I'm just at the point in my "YouTube career", whatever that means, where I'm done associating with fake, phony people. I watch the videos I want to watch. I comment on the ones that resonate with me. I'm really sorry if that sounds rude, but I owe nothing to anyone else.
Except for you guys.
And that's why I'm doing #14DaysofFeb. I want to invest the energy I used to spend commenting on fake wannabe celebrities' videos and use it for providing my subscribers with valuable, usable content. Content that inspires you. That helps you. That interests you. That makes you laugh.
Psst... I'm also participating in #StyleMeFeb on Instagram so maybe sure to follow me @ajourneyeastblog for daily photos. Of course, I'll still be updating my personal account @latmichjam with... you know, photos of my food, shoes, books, etc. Just the usual.
So let's do this, together. You and me. I'm doing it for you and I really hope you enjoy it.
