D.I.Y. Lip Scrub!
Nothing - and I mean nothing - ruins a great lipstick like chapped, nasty lips. Exfoliation is the key to letting vital moisture in to penetrate your lips, and frankly, I'm tired of paying for overpriced lip scrubs. Who knew making your own was so easy?
You will need:
- a jar of Aquaphor or Vaseline - any lip ointment will also work (Carmex, Blistex, etc.)
- a teaspoon of olive oil
- a teaspoon of almond extract (or any other natural flavoring)
- Sugar in the Raw
This recipe yields enough for a 2 oz. jar, so plan according to your jar size. I was lucky to find these mini tupperware-style containers from the dollar store in a pack of ten (perfect for giving away as gifts)! Make sure to search for a jar that seals well, as you don't want your scrub to dry out/attract ants/etc.
I started with a heaping tablespoon of Aquaphor, then added Sugar in the Raw slowly while stirring. Once the Aquaphor and sugar were blended well, I added a teaspoon of olive oil and a dash of almond extract, for taste and smell. Add more sugar or Aquaphor until you reach your desired consistency. It should be thick, not watery, but also not so thick that it will be painful to use. That's it! So simple and it honestly works just as well - if not better - than my pricey Victoria's Secret scrub.
