The late Brittany Murphy stars as Abby, a heartbroken young American stranded in Tokyo. Sound familiar? I thought so too...at first. It is easy to be turned off by the various echoes of Sofia Coppola's epic Lost in Translation. But don't be so quick to turn off the remote.
The beautiful, quirky Abby seems to find herself in this film. Unlike Charlotte in Lost in Translation, her being is not made up entirely of her relationship with a man. It turns out that the major void in Abby's life is not a man; it is passion...and ramen.
If you are looking for something light-hearted and fun, make sure to check this one out. It is impossible not to fall in love with Brittany Murphy. The Japanese culture is always one that I find interesting and lovely, and The Ramen Girl definitely pays tribute.
