I recently got the opportunity to try* out a home surveillance system called WatchBot, which is an innovative closed caption TV system that you can monitor straight from your phone. I am always paranoid about everything, especially with being a student and being gone a lot. I thought this would be a perfect fit for my lifestyle and I was excited for a little peace of mind. With that said, I am not tech-savvy at all, so I was worried about setting it up and figuring out all of the details.
I'm happy to report that this was one of the easier tech things I've ever put together. Simply attach the camera to a wireless router, plug it in, download the app, and then you're free to detach from the Internet source. Once configured, the camera connects wirelessly to the Internet and you're able to view everything from a computer or mobile phone. The app is available on both the Google Play store and the Apple Store.
The fact that I can just open up the app and see into my home when I'm away is so comforting! I love knowing that I can stay out without being paranoid about something terrible happening. The coolest part about this device is that the camera has motion sensors and has the ability to pan and tilt if it is triggered. You can also control the camera's movement on your own from the app or your computer, which is awesome. The camera is also equipped with night vision, so there's no need to leave the lights on if you're gone for an extended period of time. WatchBot also has a two-way audio server, meaning you can hear what's going on and communicate if needed. This is especially useful if you're checking on kids at home or even if your pet needs to be calmed down!
I am beyond impressed with this device, and I recommend it for individuals like myself who need a little extra peace of mind, and definitely for small businesses. The WatchBot has the ability to monitor up to nine cameras, so businesses and homes of all sizes would find it useful. I'm thinking of purchasing a second one just so I can monitor more areas of my home!
The service from this company was also quite impressive. They made a mistake and sent me the wrong type of adapter, and had the correct one sent out to me so quickly! I was really grateful for that because in the past I've worked with companies who would not have corrected their mistake at all, or would have been extremely slow at fixing it. WatchBot is run by true professionals, and I appreciate that. They also have a customer service line open five days a week for set-up and technical questions.
I'll be posting a video version of this review soon so I can show you how this camera works in action! Check back as I'll be updating this post with the link.
