YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara Review

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I recently got the opportunity to try out* the Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara. I have very high expectations for mascara, since I feel like there are so many great drugstore options out there, so I had a high wish list for this mascara. Retailing $32, it's an investment piece for sure, and I wanted to make sure it was totally worth the money before sharing it with you guys.

I did a first impressions review (below), but here are my thoughts after the first weekend of wear:

The packaging is a huge selling point for me. I know this has nothing to do with the product itself, but I feel like luxury products should really look like luxury products. This is such a great looking mascara, and it even feels nice and heavy in my hand. No cheap plastic tube here!

The wand has a traditional style brush, but is just a bit slimmer than most mascaras I've tried before. I normally go for a harder plastic brush, but this one works surprisingly well. Since it's so small, it's easy to get into the corners and even coat my bottom lashes. One other thing to note about the product itself: it's scented. This might bother some people, and to be honest, it's not my favorite. I don't mind it though, and once it's applied to my lashes, the smell goes away.

This mascara does an awesome job of volumizing my lashes, and it also made them look super black. I will say I didn't notice a ton of lengthening action going on. I have mascaras that I think make my lashes look a bit longer, but they don't compare to this one in terms of volume.

I wore this for about three whole days to see if I had any reactions to it - particularly to the fragrance, since it's allergy season and my eyes are sensitive to begin with. I didn't notice itchiness, watery eyes, or otherwise bad reactions so that's a good thing. I also noticed that this mascara absolutely does not flake or smear, even on my bottom lashes. Normally I use a waterproof mascara on my bottom lashes to avoid smudging, but this one worked just fine.

Check out my first impressions below, which also includes a full face get ready with me and demo of the mascara! I decided to use some other luxury products in this GRWM including a new Lorac palette to keep that glamorous theme going. Oh la la.
